As you hike up the stone steps worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, you will encounter a fascinating mix of simple ascetic cells (viharas), grandiose prayer halls (chaityas), intricate stupas, and remarkable rainwater harvesting systems.Key Highlights inside KanheriCave 3 (The Great Chaitya): The undisputed masterpiece of the complex. Guarded by towering, 20-foot figures of the Buddha on either side of the porch, this impressive cathedral-like hall features massive pillars with carved capitals and a soaring arched roof once lined with wooden ribs.Water Management Systems: One of Kanheri's most incredible engineering feats is its rain-harvesting channels and cisterns (podhis).
