History
The historical significance of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib is inextricably linked to the autumn of 1705 CE. Following the siege of Anandpur Sahib, the tragic loss of his four sons (Chaar Sahibzade), and the fierce battles of Chamkaur and Muktsar, Guru Gobind Singh Ji arrived at Talwandi Sabo. The local chieftain, Rai Dalla, welcomed the Guru warmly and offered him refuge and allegiance.
It was during his nine-month stay at Talwandi Sabo that Guru Gobind Singh Ji accomplished one of the most remarkable literary feats in spiritual history. He invited Dhir Mal (who held the original Adi Granth compiled by Guru Arjan Dev Ji) to lend the manuscript so it could be updated. When Dhir Mal refused, Guru Gobind Singh Ji famously dictated the entire text of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from memory to his devout scholar-disciple, Bhai Mani Singh Ji.
