About Shree Jagannath Temple Ahmedabad
The Shree Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad stands as one of the most venerated pilgrimage sites in Gujarat. Modeled after the iconic shrine in Puri, Odisha, this temple is deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual fabric of the city. History
The historical roots of the Ahmedabad Jagannath Temple date back over 400 years. The temple was established by Mahant Hanuman Dasji, a devout saint who installed the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra at this peaceful site near the Sabarmati riverbanks.
Over the generations, the temple grew in stature under successive Mahants. It was Mahant Narsinhdasji who initiated the famous annual Rath Yatra in 1878, a tradition that has continued unbroken for over a century and a half. The architecture evolved from a modest ashram setting into a grand temple structure featuring intricately carved pillars, classical domes, and spacious courtyards while preserving its traditional sanctum sanctorum.
