History
Somatheeram was established in 1985 by Mr. Baby Mathew, a visionary entrepreneur who sought to make the ancient science of Ayurveda accessible to global travelers seeking genuine health and healing. Prior to Somatheeram, Ayurvedic treatment was largely confined to traditional clinical settings or private homes across Kerala. By combining high-grade clinical care with modern resort amenities and eco-friendly hospitality, Somatheeram pioneered an entirely new category: the Ayurvedic Health Resort.
Over the decades, the resort has earned numerous prestigious accolades, including multiple National Tourism Awards from the Government of India for being the "Best Ayurvedic Centre".
