About Govardhan Eco Village
Tucked away amidst the tranquil foothills of the Sahyadri range, Govardhan Eco Village (GEV) is a 100-acre retreat center dedicated to spiritual growth, holistic wellness, and environmental stewardship. Conceived as a project of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), the eco-community presents a harmonious blend of traditional Vedic wisdom and modern eco-friendly living.
Visitors to Govardhan Eco Village can experience a serene sanctuary away from the hustle of city life. One of the central highlights of the village is its meticulously crafted Vrindavan Forest experience. Here, key holy sites from Vrindavan—such as Radha Kunda, Shyam Kunda, Govardhan Hill, and various iconic temples—have been recreated, allowing devotees and visitors to embark on a mini-pilgrimage (Parikrama) right in Maharashtra.

History
Govardhan Eco Village was conceptualized in the early 2000s under the leadership of spiritual teacher Radhanath Swami and a dedicated group of ISKCON volunteers. The vision was to establish a self-sufficient village model that demonstrates how ancient spiritual values can directly solve modern ecological problems like deforestation, soil degradation, and pollution.
Land acquisition and soil regeneration efforts began in 2003 in the drought-prone, economically backward rural stretch of Wada Taluka. Over two decades of intensive water conservation, tree planting, and organic soil building transformed barren terrain into a lush green haven.
In 2017, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) awarded Govardhan Eco Village the prestigious UNWTO Award for Innovation in Non-Governmental Organizations, recognizing its outstanding contribution to sustainable tourism and rural development. The site continues to serve as a global benchmark for sustainable living, inspiring academic researchers, environmentalists, and spiritual seekers worldwide.
