About Kainchi Dham
Nestled in a picturesque valley between two hills in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Kainchi Dham is a world-renowned spiritual sanctuary and ashram. Established by the revered saint Maharaj Neem Karoli Baba in the 1960s, the ashram is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and serves as a haven of peace, devotion, and selfless service (seva).
The name 'Kainchi' derives from a local term referring to two sharp hairpin bends in the road resembling a pair of scissors. The complex features exquisitely maintained temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Neem Karoli Baba himself, surrounded by lush pine forests and a gushing mountain stream.
Kainchi Dham gained worldwide prominence after global tech leaders, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, visited or drew inspiration from the teachings associated with Neem Karoli Baba during pivotal moments in their lives.
History
The history of Kainchi Dham dates back to May 24, 1962, when Neem Karoli Baba (affectionately called 'Maharaj-ji') first arrived at this quiet spot alongside his disciple, Poornanand. Touched by the peaceful atmosphere, Maharaj-ji envisioned a sacred space for spiritual practice and community gathering.
Construction of the temple complex began shortly thereafter, culminating in the consecration of the main Hanuman Temple on June 15, 1964. Every year on June 15th, the ashram celebrates its foundation day with a grand Bhandara (feast), attracting over a hundred thousand devotees from across the world.
