Udupi Sri Krishna Temple

The Udupi Sri Krishna Temple (Sri Krishna Matha) is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in Southern India. Established in the 13th century by the great Dvaita philosopher Sri Madhvacharya, this temple complex resembles a living monastic city surrounded by eight mathas (Ashta Mathas).A unique aspect of this temple is that deity worship is not performed directly face-to-face. Instead, devotees view the idol of Lord Krishna through a silver-plated carved window with nine holes, known as the Kanakana Kindi (Kanaka's Window). The idol itself depicts Lord Krishna as a young boy holding a churning rod in one hand and a rope in the other.Key Features & HighlightsKanakana Kindi: The famous window through which Kanakadasa, a great saint and devotee, had darshan when he was barred from entering the temple due to caste restrictions.
